Lots of applications and sites are increasingly making use of error messages that attempt to be funny, cool, and laid-back about the error that has occurred. But how do users perceive such messages and what impact do they have on user attitudes?

In my experience these error messages are for unanticipated bugs. You could tell the user the error was a NullPointerException if you want but most users won't understand it. It might even frighten some.
